It was a rainy start of the day for Six in the Hood on Sunday.
Fortunately, the rain didn't last long. As I was driving into Pt. Colborne the rain started to taper off and it was all done by the time I got to the parking lot. Throughout the day there were moments where it looked like the sky wanted to open up but the sun seemed to be stronger and cleared things up just as it was getting bad. I even heard thunder a couple of times.
As for the course, it started off very muddy. There was lots of rain overnight and that made the course quite slick. After a couple of laps, the wetter spots became tacky and the rocky parts dried up completely. As usual in The Hood, the trails take rain quite well--especially with a few dozen riders going through. As for those riders, there were a couple of accidents, the worst I heard about required some staples. The wet weather also allowed the bugs to form hunting parties. I made the mistake of going into the woods once before the racers went through--I paid the price.
Overall, it turned out to be a great day. ShortHills Cycling Club really knows how to put on a race and it shows with the fun everyone is having there.
